Aung San Suu Kyi

The writer first encountered Aung San Suu Kyi in 10th grade and was captivated by her youthful, confident image. Born in 1945 in Myanmar, Suu Kyi fought for democracy using non-violent methods, earning international recognition and prizes. Despite long house arrest and personal sacrifices, she eventually played a key role in Myanmar’s political transformation and now serves as State Counselor.
